Perception (from the Latin perceptio) is the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the presented information, or the environment.

Whenever you have an opportunity to speak, whether to the Media or Audiences, you have four specific and distinct deliverables.
1. Your audience MUST UNDERSTAND you.
This sounds like a simple task, and in fact, most people do speak in a way that is understandable, as long as they don't use too much jargon or speak in a manner that is difficult to understand.
2. Your audience MUST REMEMBER your speech.
This is the tricky part! There is a big difference in speaking in a way that is understandable versus speaking in a way that is both understandable and memorable. So many times we have had to sit through a conference filled with speaker after speaker for one or two days, but when it was all over, you couldn't associate any one specific new idea with any speaker!
3. Your audience must ACT on what you've asked them to do.
When you speak you are trying to motivate people to actually DO something, i.e., sign a contract, work harder and inspiring employees to achieve more etc
4. Your audience should TELL OTHERS what you said.
The real power in speaking is not just reaching the audience in the room or watching any one show. The strength comes from getting people who heard you to go to work for you at no cost by telling other people what you said. Think of it as multi-level marketing without the cheese and sleaze.
